Water Orton Fair 7th Ocotber 2007
WATER ORTON FAIR 7th OCTOBER 2007
a brief report from Water Orton because it was a bit of a non event really.
G. and I got there about 10.30 and there were a handful of horse people and a line of car booters, so we went and had a mosey
round the horse boxes. There was a blue and white colt foal tethered to a long chain on a stake
and he was obviously well used to being like that, although he had a raw patch under the noseband and
another in his 'armpit' no doubt due to the chain.

Obviously well weaned some time before, his owner persisted in trying to sell him to me
because I had asked a couple of questions about him! As if I don't have enough trouble lol.
We saw a couple more foals, all self sufficient, without their mothers, and one or two mares who had obviously been lactating but no sign
of their foals. They weren't calling.
There were between 20 and 30 adult horses, all in pretty good condition, none stressed unduly and a couple of donkeys.
One had very long feet but otherwise looked fine.
We didn't see any horses being abused at all, so that was a huge relief, since it was far from clear who
was organising it and there would have been no -one we could complain to.
There were one or two clearly scared of their owners, but no abuse at the time.
There were cages of pet rabbits, ferrets and poultry, none seemed unduly overcrowded.
We didn't see any puppies for sale.
All in all it was a small fair attended by the public
