DERBY AUCTION APRIL 24th
Report by CW (N & A)

No welfare presence barring myself and friends
No RSPCA or local authority officer - I went and asked in the office and was told no-one onsite or available. No horses had water, not even the 2 heavily pregnant jenny donkeys (we were told were) 'due to foal next month' Not many were supplied with hay either, I'd say about 25% had hay, the rest had nothing.
Lot 62, a hackney stallion was EXTREMELY stressed, worked himself into a sweat as he was in a pen next to 2 colts in front of him and mares alongside.
There was dealing 'direct' in the car park We saw 2 horses (during this dealing being) trotted up, both smacked hard with large wooden walking sticks. Horses tied to the lorry all day with no hay or water.
2 different lots of puppies(were on sale) but both moved on quickly, one was in a cardboard box, the other lot were in a dog cage, no water and looked very very young. We went to check the chickens and by the time we came back they were also gone.

Most prices were under 500gns. A couple went for under 100gns
General state of the animals wasn't horrendous but lots of thin wormy looking youngsters including 2 coloureds who I really don't think should have been away from their mothers and were looking very lethargic and depressed.
The chicken auction conditions were horrendous, birds crammed 2 or 3 to a box with no food or water, and boxes stacked 3 high"
