READING AUCTION 3rd April

Reading Market Horse Sale 3 April.2008

The Market, Friday 3rd April, was very quiet.
The usual, regular, dealers I usually see, did not attend for some reason and there
were no horses pre- registered for sale, only 12 went to the ring.
There were 2 bay Irish sport,  approx 16hh, 10 year olds, that went through the ring with no reserve,
they were unshod and sold for under £600 each, their condition (could of been better) ribs showing, feet overgrown,
just lack  of 'tlc' and in need of a good feed and a groom, these were sold with no warrantee.
Ponies there were selling for around the £300.
1 heavy weight cob, which looked like his feathers had been hacked off, his feet over grown and badly chipped, looked as if he had been taken straight from the field.   2 coloured ponies being trotted up and down ridden in tack by young girls, without hats on, got to £1000 each but were unsold as they didn?t reach the reserve
A regular dealer was at the front selling young ponies, approx 10 of them, in a poor state, terrified, and all in a pen together with no hay, no water. A lot of them were mouthing to older horses, like yearlings do, and their tails were still fluffy. They were appaloosas, a couple of roans, and coloureds, all slipping on there own muck, really frightened. This dealer sells just inside the market every month, every one complains, but nothing seems to be done to stop it.
These ponies never go through the ring but are sold ?out of the auction ring? there doesn't seem to be anyone stopping him do so.
All the time people buy these sad ponies he will continue to keep bringing them, letting them get in that state, then people
feel sorry for them and he gets a higher price. RSPCA officers were present
