Work Experience Week








EMW Herefordshire was pleased to welcome
Sally during the week of 19th to 23 October
as our latest work experience student.

Sally, coming from Shropshire, not only had to get to know new horses and people but also had to stay away from home during her week. Sally wanted to concentrate on youngsters as she only has older ponies at  home so we gave her Dewi to mentor. Sally is very successful in the showring and has had phenomenal success with EMW pony, Levi, in many and varied in-hand competitions. Levi has been on loan to Sally and her family for many years now. Sally also has a nice riding horse of her own.
During our week we visited EMW Wales Sanctuary where Sally observed the latest intake, EMW Wizard ( Ed for short) and watch Siobhan working with him to gain his confidence and trust prior to his castration operation scheduled for Tuesday 28th October.
We also did a morning of office work and some of the more 'boring' but necessary jobs that running a charity entail.
We spent time each afternoon working with Dewi and teaching him to long rein, free school over little jumps in the round pen as well as working on clicker and target training, he picked all up very fast and with Sally's knowledgable approach to ring craft soon looked the part of a show pony, albeit a mucky one!
We hope Sally enjoyed her week with us despite a few weather hiccups. We certainly enjoyed having her here.
